ULTRA TRAIL SERRA DA FREITA - A DREAM IN NATURE
When you talk to Zé Moutinho, you soon realise how passionate he is about Mother Nature. He has organised countless events, for both training and competitive purposes, in absolutely stunning natural settings. They all bear his unique signature.
We can all remember the texts written by our dear friend Sálvio Nora, who often narrated his adventures and the discoveries he made in the company of Zé Moutinho. It was these two pioneering trail-blazers who were responsible for awakening a passion amongst runners for mountains, nature, and ultra trail runs.
In every project we envision there has to be passion as well as a measure of madness. And in fact, Zé Moutinho is the maddest madman I’ve ever met; but what he does has very healthy consequences for the rest of us. After all, the recent passion for running in mountain settings and in the midst of nature is the result of his drive, dedication and vision.
The Ultra Trail Serra da Freita has rapidly established itself as a must-do event, and has an ever-growing number of fans and participants. There is a spirit of solidarity and camaraderie amongst all involved in this event that you won’t find anywhere else. The event’s unique spirit is undoubtedly a factor that attracts more and more runners every year.
I wish this event a long and successful existence. I would also like to extend my thanks to the event organisers, who honoured me this year with the responsibility of being its patron. I was touched and filled with pride by the gesture, since I have a special friendship with Zé Moutinho and great fondness for events of this nature. I know they are not easy to organise, and involve a lot of work, dedication and sleepless nights. But when you see that the result of all the hard work is really very good, and in this case the result is the 5th edition of the Ultra Trail Serra da Freita, it makes it all worthwhile.
Keep up the good work Zé!
